In today's post I bring you a reflection that I shared on my account. Instagram about this phrase that you have probably heard (or yourself have uttered) on some occasion: “If you don't behave, Santa Claus won't bring you gifts“.
Christmas is coming and with it… the threats and blackmail!
Do these types of phrases sound familiar to you?
⚡️ “If you behave this badly, the Kings will bring you coal”
⚡️”Be careful, Santa Claus sees everything”
⚡️”They don't bring gifts to children who don't obey.”
⚡️”If you don't share, Santa Claus won't bring you anything“
⚡️”If you don't pick up your toys, the Kings will pass you by“
Parents, grandparents, teachers say it.… even the neighbor!
How would it sound if your partner told you this? “Don't forget to hang the washing machine or you'll be left without a Christmas gift. Be careful, the Kings are watching you all the time.” What a bad feeling, right?
Let's not play with the illusion of children
The countdown to Christmas begins, one of the most special dates for children. And some adults see it as the ideal excuse to get children heed through fear and threat.
These blackmails probably work in the moment. But you are also teaching him to:
- Collaborate in exchange for something.
- If I don't obey, I'm bad.
- I also threaten others.
- Accept bribes and blackmail.
Let's not use your illusion as a tool of handling. Let's leave the children enjoy these days without blackmail or threats.
For a Christmas without blackmail, threats or humiliation.
